Sakura opened in 1985 in a quiet alley of Nishi-Shinjuku. Founder Ichiro Sakurai set up a binchotan grill with a simple wish: great yakitori, enjoyed casually.
For forty years we have kept two promises: grill only over Kishu binchotan, and use chicken delivered fresh each morning. No flashy signs, no advertising — just word of mouth. Today, under the second-generation owner, our tables fill every night.
Chat with the grill chef at the counter, or linger with friends at a table. Unpretentious, yet uncompromising on quality. That is Sakura.
